  Hans Georg Nägeli was a composer and writer on music. His musical lending library was the first of its kind in Switzerland and figured among the earliest collections to provide access to Bach's lesser-known works. His musical correspondence included exchanges with major figures of his time, including Beethoven, Schubert, Weber, and Spohr.

  This edition is especially interesting for its frequent and unusual notation of crescendi above the staves (see images).

  A piece for piano written to mark the opening of the Fifth Avenue Hotel in New York City. The hotel is depicted on the cover with in a detailed and decorative lithograph by the noted lithograph J.H. Bufford. Scarce.

  The Fifth Avenue Hotel opened in 1859 on the southwest corner of what is now Madison Square Park. Its distance from the city's downtown core, where most people lived and worked, caused many to predict its failure, but it quickly became a hub for the social, political, and cultural elite. The hotel was luxuriously outfitted and gratuitously staffed, attracting notable guests with advertisements of its opulent dining room, private bathrooms, and fireplaces in every room. It was also the first hotel to have elevators. Ten presidents and several members of the British royalty would stay at the Fifth Avenue Hotel before its closure in 1908, the Prince of Wales once remarking that the place was a larger and more handsome building than Buckingham Palace.

  A handsome facsimile on parchment paper of the cast page to the first edition of the score to Puccini's opera La Fanciulla del West. The page shows the signatures of the entire Metropolitan Opera premiere cast, which included Emmy Destinn as Minny and Caruso as Dick Johnson, as well those of as Puccini and Toscanini, who conducted on opening night in 1910.

  The Opéra Comique, known officially today as the Théâtre National de l'Opéra-Comique, is a Parisian opera company that was founded around 1714. The company has made important contributions to the French and European operatic traditions since its inception and premiered many mainstays of the repertoire, including Berlioz's La damnation de Faust and Bizet's Carmen.

  The scarce limited full-size facsimile edition of Dom Bédos de Celles' monumental work, which is still referred to by organ builders today. Dom Bédos, whose full name was François Lamathe Bédos de Celles de Salellesbest, was a Benedictine monk and master pipe organ builder.
