He also sketches something indistinct (possibly a female figure?) and signs C. Saint-Saëns on it. Envelope also signed Saint-Saëns on flap. ALS torn at folds so that each page is in halves.

Clipped from a folded hotel letterhead, on which a very small portion of her letter to Miss Stanfield is legible on both sides. A good example despite being clipped. Miss Standfield would be the English cellist Milly Stanfield.

- Sembrich, Marcella (1858-1935) SIG-16125 $40InquireSIG of the Polish soprano who figured prominently in the inaugural season of the Metropolitan Opera. She would perform there 466 times, most notably under the baton of Gustav Mahler and alongside Enrico Caruso. On small sheet with sentiments in French, Breslau, 1887. An early example in fine condition.

- Sparkes, Leonora (1878-1969) SIG-00754 $10InquireSIG of the British-American soprano, whose long Metropolitan Opera career began the very same night that Toscanini made his conducting debut with the company in 1908. On clipped sheet, 1910. With smudges, but legible.

Steber was among the first American-trained opera singers to receive international renown. She sang at the Metropolitan Opera from 1940 to 1961, appeared at the Bayreuth Festival in 1953, and premiered Barber's Knoxville: Summer of 1915 (which she herself had commissioned!).

- Strachey, Jack (1894-1972) AMQ-16141 $30InquireAMQ, small card (3.25" h x 4.25" w), 1947. The first two bars of Strachey's most famous song, "These Foolish Things Remind Me of You", signed by him with sentiments. The popular tune was a top-ten hit for five different artists in 1936 alone.
