GPH-14258$1,200Plate number 17 from the famous Encomium Musices published by Philip Galle in Antwerp c. 1590, with engravings by Adriaen Collaert (1560-1618) after Jan van der Straeten, called Stradanus (1523-1605). Remarkable as incunabula, being one of the rare early engravings showing open music being performed. The music is not easily readable but it is thought that it might be by Andreas Pevernage, who has been identified as the composer of the music on the title page of the series. The music is surrounded by a group of monks playing brass instruments.
