A stunning and rare portrait of Salomon Deyling, theologian at the University in Leipzig and friend of J. S. Bach. The engraving dates from 1756 and was executed in Leipzig by J. M. Bernigeroth after a 1737 portrait by E. G. Hausmann.

Deyling was the Superintendent of the Dioceses. Bach is believed to have composed the Epiphany cantata Alles nur nach Gottes Willen after hearing one of Deyling's sermons.
