Strauss, Richard (1864-1949)

Photograph Inscribed and Signed

"Dr Richard Strauss". To Hofkapellmeister Hermann Kutzschbach. Berlin, January 1, 1916. 9.5" h x 6.5" w. Total in mat: 12.5" h x 10" w. In very good condition. Handsomely matted in glossy linen. A couple of tiny abrasions at top and bottom (not affecting image or inscription); crease at bottom left corner (not affecting).
A rare image of Richard Strauss, nicely inscribed to a fellow conductor.

The German composer-conductor inscribes and signs a sepia profile photograph of himself holding a baton: Herrn Hofkapellmeister Hermann Kutzschbach, in aufrichtigen Dankebarkeit für Seine Zuhänglichkeit (To Kapellmeister Hermann Kutzschbach, with sincere thanks for his kindness).

Hermann Kutzschbach was a German conductor who spent much of his career at the Dresden Court Theater: first as répétiteur, then as conductor.

A very uncommon image, previously unknown to us.
