Moór, Emánuel (1863-1931)
Photograph.
London, n.d. c. 6" h x 8" w. In very good condition. Tiny spot rubbed at bottom left corner. Unsigned.A glossy black-and-white photograph of the Hungarian pianist, composer, and inventor, shown playing a double-keyboard piano of his own invention called the Emánuel Moór Pianoforte. A typed note taped to the back of the photograph reads: Photo shows Mr. Moor…giving a recital to an interested audience at Aeolian Hall, London. Scarce.
Moór's double keyboard incorporated a tracking device that enabled the pianist to play a spread of two octaves using only one hand. It became popular in Europe and the United States, owing in part to its promotion by Moór's wife, British pianist Winifred Christie. Ravel once expressed how much he liked the instrument's timbre.
