Toscanini, Arturo (1867-1957)
Photograph Signed
"Arturo Toscanini". 10" h x 8" w. Nicely inscribed in green ink to Lily Pons. In fine condition.A nice portrait of the famed Italian conductor, shown apparently looking down at a score. Toscanini had spent seven years conducting the Metropolitan Opera, from 1908-1916, subsequently conducting it many times thereafter, leading legendary opera performances including during the time while Lily Pons reigned as a star principal coloratura soprano from 1931 through 1960. Both artists were pioneers in bringing classical music to mass American audiences through live Saturday afternoon radio broadcasts. They never recorded together and Pons regular conductor and eventual husband was André Kostelanetz.
