Fay, Amy (1844-1928)

Photograph Signed

"Amy Fay". To Jessie. The Scherer Studio, New York, March 16, 1916. Cabinet on original mount with a total size of 9" h x 6" w. In very good condition. Just starting to silver; small crack at border of lower right.
A stunning and very rare photograph of the American pianist Amy Fay, in its original mat from the Scherer Studio in Brooklyn, New York. Fay has signed and inscribed it on the mat: To my dear Jessie, with love, from her music teacher.
Amy Fay is best remembered for her memoir, Music Study in Germany (1880), which chronicles the time she spent in that country studying piano and attending concerts, and includes an informative biographical sketch of her teacher, Franz Liszt. She was also well known in her own time for her lecture-recitals, which she called "piano conversations".
