"Edwin Franko Goldman". To Dr. Thomas Howie. July 27, 1937. 10" h x 8" w. In very good condition with two faint creases at right.
A handsome signed and inscribed black-and-white portrait of the pioneering American band composer and conductor. He is shown in a double-breasted suit and posed in a conducting stance with baton.
Goldman began his career as a trumpet player at the Metropolitan Opera before taking a job at Carl Fischer Music. In 1911, he founded the New York Military Band (later known as the Goldman Band), which became enormously popular in New York for both its summer concerts and radio performances. Goldman also penned over 150 works, including the marches "On the Mall" and "Chimes of Liberty", and founded the American Bandmasters Association.
