Foote, Arthur (1853-1937)

Trio für Pianoforte, Violine und Violoncell in C moll, Op. 5

Signed "Arthur Foote/Sept. 22. 84". Arthur Schmidt: Boston, 1884. Pl.n: 23779. first edition. Engraved. Small folio. 55 pp. + 15 pp. + 13 pp. Paper wraps. Foxing and repaired tear on title page, with cover and one page detached from piano part, otherwise in very good clean condition.
Inscribed on title page in pencil W. J. Apthorp with the regards of Arthur Foote Sept. 22. 84 [?]. Title page also bears the stamp of the noted pianist Ernest Schelling who was Paderewski's only pupil and who started the children's concerts at the New York Philharmonic.
Oddly, the individual parts are labeled "Op. 3" though the Piano Trio is listed both in Foote's catalogue and on the cover as "Op. 5". There is no record of an "Op. 3".
