This famous quarterly was launched single-handedly in 1927 by Henry Cowell (1897-1965). Cowell, who became one of the most important figures in twentieth-century American music, was already well-established by then as a prolific composer using trailblazing sound combinations and was an indefatigable champion of "ultra-modern" music.
