SCHUMANN SCORE OWNED BY SEIDL

Schumann, Robert (1810-1856)

Ouverture für grosses Orchester zu Manfred von Lord Byron. Op. 115. Partitur.

Breitkopf & Härtel: [1852, as per WorldCat]. Pl.n: 8570. first edition. Engraved. Small quarto. 71 pp. Seidl's stamp on title page and pp. 1, 9, 35, and 51. Howard Shanet's signature on the first free end paper. Blue buckram boards. In good condition overall. Spotting on title and first five pages but quite minor thereafter. Occasional stamps of Columbia University, including a pin-hole stamp across the publishing information on the title page; bookplate of Columbia University on inside front cover. Conductor's performance markings throughout.
Formerly in the libraries of Anton Seidel and Howard Shanet, and withdrawn from the Department of Music at Columbia University. It is unclear if the performing notes scribbled throughout are those of Seidl, the great Wagnerian conductor, or Shanet, the author of the history of the New York Philharmonic (or someone else entirely).
