The Concerto in C minor for Piano, Trumpet, and String Orchestra, Op. 35, was completed by Dmitri Shostakovich in 1933 and premiered on 15 October, 1933 by the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra with Shostakovich at the piano, Fritz Stiedry conducting, and Alexander Schmidt playing the trumpet solos. Shostakovich recalled that he had initially planned to write a concerto for trumpet and orchestra but then added the piano to make it a double concerto; indeed, both instruments have equally prominent roles.

Regarding the edition, although there was an edition published in the Soviet Union by Muzgiz in 1934, that initial publication featured the full score and the composer's own arrangement for two pianos. That wording is confusing but is followed by the statement that the 1935 edition is "scored uniquely for a solo piano, solo trumpet, and string orchestra." This edition seems to be a somewhat scarce and we have not located another copy.

This copy belonged to the American musicologist, editor and author Nathan Broder and is inscribed on the first blank, dated 1938, "to my dear friends the Broders", by music publisher Eugene Weintraub. Weintraub was a Russian-born music publisher who helped introduce the music of 20th century Russian composers to American audiences.
