Gershwin, George (1898-1937)

Porgy and Bess. [Piano/vocal Score].

Oddly, first editions of Porgy and Bess are scarce and this is a very nice copy. Although not the very first issue, it was still published in 1935, the year of the first performance.

Porgy and Bess premiered in Boston on September 30, 1935, later opening in New York on October 10 of that same year. The show includes a number of Gershwin's best-known and loved tunes, including "I Got Plenty o' Nuttin", "Summertime", "It Ain't Necessarily So", and "A Woman Is a Sometime Thing".
