Violin - Cane Violin

German, second half of the 19th century. Overall length; 36 ". String length: c. 12" (c. 31.5 cm). Bow: 15.5". Excellent condition.
A rare walking-stick cane violin.

A delightful and fun walking stick cane violin. The walnut handle ends are capped with bone and there is also a thin bone collar as well. There are two brass collars and a brass cap at the bottom end. When the handle is removed and then the top cover, a violin is revealed fitted into the other half and a chamber with a bow. The violin has a spruce top, bone nut and four metal tuners capped with bone. The bow has a decorative bone frog.
