METROPOLITAN OPERA PROGRAMS, FOR TALES OF HOFFMAN & MASSENET'S DON QUIXOTE

Offenbach, Jacques (1819-1880)

1924 & 1926. 13.5 x 10. Both opera programs are in very good condition and laid down on either side of a black album leaf.
Two Metropolitan opera performances signed by the entire cast.

The centerfold program for a November 13, 1924 Metropolitan opera performance of Offenbach's much beloved opera The Tale of Hoffman, signed by the entire cast which included Lucrezia Bori, Lawrence Tibbett, Giuseppe De Luca, and Miguel Fleta, as well as the conductor Louis Hasselmans.

On the verso is a centerfold for the Metropolitan Opera premiere of Massenet's Don Quixote on April 3, 1926, also signed by the entire cast which included Feodor, Chaliapin, Guiseppe De Luca, Florence Easton, and the conductor Louis Haselmans.

These programs come from the collection of Dr. Oliver Austin, a medical doctor, ornithologist, and avid opera lover. He attended the Met regularly and knew many of the cast, which put him in the unique position of being able to get the entire cast of an opera to sign a program, something quite unusual at that time.
