PIANO STOOL
American, 19th century. Very good.A very nice 4-legged piano stool. American, mid 19th century, in the style of Duncan Phyfe. The four square splayed turned legs are joined with an ‘X’ stretcher. The height of the upholstered box seat is adjustable by means of a hand- threaded wood screw post under the seat which continues through the X stretcher. With new upholstery appropriate to the period.
This stool was presented to the former owners as being by the preeminent maker Duncan Phyfe, a major spokesman for Neoclassicism. Although in his style, we cannot guarantee that and are only claiming that it is in his style and made in America in the 19th century. The red fabric on it was carefully chosen to be correct for the period.
