MUSIC STAND - FEDERAL PERIOD AMERICAN

New England, late 18th or early 19th century. Pine and maple. Ranges from 25"h to 40"h. Desk is 21" wide. Fine condition. Refinished at some point.
A rare American Federal period music stand.

At some point the stand was varnished, as the original finish can be seen on the back of the desk, indicating that it was originally painted brown. It was almost certainly made in New England, possibly New Hampshire or Massachusetts, sometime between 1790 and 1820. Adjustable as to height and angle with so-called double birdcage through which the pole is raised.

This is the only Federal period music stand we have ever seen for sale.
