Borge, Victor (1909-2000)

Concert Poster.

Boston, November 28, [1956]. c. 22" h x 14" w. In very good condition. Small crease at Borge's forehead; additional crease at upper-right corner. Unsigned.
A colorful poster for a Victor Borge performance at Boston's Symphony Hall on November 28, 1956. A cartoon Borge is shown seated at the piano in his signature tails, looking through a pair of binoculars with a small smile.

Borge only spent a few years as a classical pianist before debuting his signature act of music and comedy in the 1930s. He immigrated to the United States in August of 1940 to avoid Nazi occupation in Denmark; although he had only $20 in his pocket and did not speak a word of English, he was on the radio and working for Bing Crosby just one year later. His Comedy in Music show, which is advertised on this poster, enjoyed an initial run in New York City of 849 performances. Among Borge's beloved bits were "Phonetic Punctuation", buckling himself onto his piano bench, and selling sheet music to members of the audience.
