n.d, but after 1885. 2.5" h x 3.5" w. In excellent condition. Unsigned.An unsigned visiting card of Austrian-American pianist Fannie Bloomfield Zeisler. The card must date to after her 1885 marriage to attorney Sigmund Zeisler, as it bears her married name.
Praised for “playing like a man” and dubbed the “Sarah Bernhardt of the piano”, Fannie Bloomfield Zeisler defied the expectations for women pianists of her time. She made her debut at age 11 with Chicago's Beethoven Society, after which she studied in Vienna under Theodor Leschetizky, inheriting his high standards of pianism and artistry. After a brilliant performing career in both the U.S. and Europe, she became an important pedagogue.
