Joseph Labitzky was equally active as a performer, conductor, and composer. He toured Germany as a concert violinist in his youth, formed his own orchestra in 1825, and conducted another orchestra in Karlsbad in the 1830s. He also wrote over 300 dance pieces, many of which became quite popular both in Europe and England. He was the father of composer August Labitzky.
