Casadesus, Robert (1899-1972)

Autograph Letter Signed

"Robert Casadesus". To Cher Monsieur. April 9, 1952. Small stationery with a Princeton NJ letterhead. 1 page. Fine.
A short note by the renowned French pianist and composer (piano, chamber, and symphonic) to a critic, thanking him for his belle critique given in the Musical Leader. He is enchanté that my interpretations have pleased you.

During World War II, The Casadesus lived in Princeton New Jersey, which is reflected on this letterhead. Among his Princeton neighbors was Albert Einstein, who was an amateur violinist; the two played Mozart together privately on occasion.

Casadesus was the most prominent member of a distinguished musical family. He toured extensively as both a soloist and chamber player and performed frequently alongside his wife, noted pianist Gaby Casadesus. Maurice Ravel was a close colleague and they collaborated on a project to create piano rolls of a number of his works.
