Bauer, Harold (1873-1951)

Autograph Letter Signed

"Harold Bauer". To Mr. Strasser. New York, October 2, 1925. 11" h x 8.5" w. 1 p. In excellent condition. Typical folds; small chip at upper left.
The wonderful English pianist writes to a Mr. Strasser to relay that pianist Ossip Gabrilowitsch would like to have one of the scores of the Bach concerto as soon as possible and to please send all the other copies (Schubert and Bach) to me.
English-born pianist Harold Bauer studied in Paris under Paderewski and began his career touring Europe in the 1890s. He then made his American debut in 1900 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, giving the U.S. premiere of Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 1. He soon after settled in the States, where, in addition to performing, he would head the Piano Department of the Manhattan School of Music and found the Beethoven Association.
