Giuseppe Bornaccini was an Italian composer of opera, sacred music, and chamber music. After studying composition in Rome and Naples, he eventually made his way to Trieste in 1834, where he wrote this chorus while working as a teacher of composition and singing. He remained in the city until 1848 before returning to his native Ancona.
Österreichischer Lloyd was a large Austro-Hungarian shipping company, founded in 1833 and based in Trieste. This chorus may have been written in conjuction with Österreichischer Lloyd's acquisition of the First Danubian Steam Navigation Company in 1844, which helped the business grow by adding new a steamliner route to the East.
