French, second half of the 19th century. 5" in length (12.6 cm). Fine except for missing very bottom of ebony button.
Boxwood bird caller with good patina. The single finger hole enables one to change the pitch. Bird whistles of this design were made in France as early as the 18th century and the tradition continues to this day.
