A first-edition copy of the libretto to Wagner's first opera, Die Feen, which the composer adapted himself after Carlo Gozzi's La donna serpente.
Wagner completed Die Feen in 1833 when he was just twenty years old. He struggled to find a company and venue to stage it, though, and soon turned his attention to Das Liebesverbot and Rienzi. Although the vocal score and libretto to Die Feen were published in 1888, Wagner would never see the work performed.BKS-15524$125
Despite the opera's performance history -- or lack thereof -- Wagner thought enough of it to personally gift the manuscript to King Ludwig II of Bavaria.
