Handel, George Frideric

Broadside Announcement Of Messiah.

London, April 2, 1783. Broadside measures 8.5" h x 6.5" w. Total size in frame: 13.85" h x 11.75" w. In excellent condition (some creasing and very minor stain at top right corner).
A broadside announcing the Drury Lane performance of Handel's Messiah at Drury Lane, which features Miss Linley, Miss Phillips, Mr. Norris, and Mr. Reinhold in the solo vocal parts. An organ concerto played by Mr. Stanley is offered in the intermission.

A particularly nice example of a rare broadside and attractively framed.

"Miss Linley" is almost certainly Mary Polly Linley, sister of Thomas Linley. Thomas was an aspiring English composer and close boyhood friend of Mozart's. Much was expected of him in English music circles, but he died in a tragic boating accident at age 22 in 1778.
