HARP - MINIATURE TRIPLE HARP

Most likely Welsh, first half of the 19th century. 14" h (35.6 cm). Case 19.25" h (48.9 cm) and 11.5" at widest point (29.2 cm). The instrument is missing the heads of four tuning pins and there are no string pins. Two small cracks in the soundboard (separation because of shrinking). Overall both the instrument and its case are in excellent condition.
A rare, fascinating and very well-made miniature triple harp, possibly made as a one-of-a-kind instrument for use by a traveling entertainer; it was obviously built to be played. In a very sturdy wooden case clearly meant for traveling and which has a handle and inside protective bar. The instrument is an interesting combination of metal and wood, made to withstand the tension of all the strings and painted in black with gold-painted decorations. The wood base has four stylized paw feet. The case is trimmed with gold-painted banding.
