Verdi, Giuseppe (1813-1901)

Ensemble With Photograph And Autograph Letter Signed

"G. Verdi". Matted with a total size of 11.5" h x 14.5" w. One page. Letter a little creased down center and sunned; photograph excellent. Overall very good.
An attractive ensemble with a scarce carte de visite photograph of the composer and a short note in which Verdi says that any time is good for him to go over part of his Inno delle nazioni, which he here calls "Cantica."
Verdi's Inno delle nazioni, or "Cantica," as he called it, is a single-movement cantata with a text by Arrigo Boito. The work represents one of the earliest collaborations between the composer and librettist; their later, more famous efforts include Otello and Falstaff. The "Cantica" was written for London's 1862 International Exhibition and features "God Save the King" and "La Marseillaise," among other well-known national tunes.
