Wurlitzer-Bruck announces the addition to its online catalog a new collection of 182 items of printed chamber music composed before 1850. This includes significant and rare early editions of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Pleyel and others, as well as hard-to-find editions of repertory often not available in modern editions. The collection includes many string quartets, violin duos and keyboard chamber music of all kinds. We think these items are of particular note:
- Early Beethoven editions, including several first and early editions of string quartets
- Early Mozart editions
- Early Pleyel editions, especially of string quartets
- Early editions of Viotti, several signed
- Violin duos
This collection also includes two important examples of early lithography, the first edition of Mozart’s Musical Joke (K522) published by André in Offenbach-am-Main, and the first French edition, published by André’s Charenton shop near Paris. The autograph of Mozart’s Musical Joke was one of a body of Mozart autographs that the André firm acquired from Mozart’s widow in 1799 and began publishing in 1800. The collection also includes one of André’s later editions and all three include amusing title page vignettes depicting the hapless musicians satirized in Mozart’s music.
Another hard-to-find item is a bound collection of Spohr’s Double String Quartets bound together with Mendelssohn’s Octet. The Spohr works have not been republished in modern editions but are quite worthy of more attention. This set is beautifully and durably bound and includes three Spohr first editions.
In addition to newly added chamber music, we’ve also updated the whole online catalog, especially the list of Music Facsimiles, where several new items have been added and others updated.
We’ve also made changes to the website overall, not least this page of announcements, but also including improvements to the Online Catalog inventory search system. Last of all, we’ve added a newsfeed for this News & Announcements page, so that if you are accustomed to subscribing to newsfeeds, you can subscribe to this page and receive notifications when new announcements are posted.
